With a focus on prioritizing tobacco use reduction in the region, the North Country Population Health Improvement Program (NC PHIP) has published a feature article on its HealthyADK website, “Increasing the Legal Minimum Sale Age of Tobacco Products.” The article highlights the work of the Capital District Tobacco-Free Coalition (CDTFC) and community partners to increase the legal minimum sale age of tobacco products to 21 in Albany and Schenectady. Judy Rightmyer, Director of CDTFC, discusses her challenges and successes in helping to raise the sale age.
Tobacco use is the largest contributor to poor health in the North Country, resulting in cancer, heart disease, respiratory disease, premature birth, and premature death. The NC PHIP is working to find and promote ways to reduce tobacco use in the region. Read more about their efforts.
