Clinician Loan Repayment Q&A available

Reminder: March 31, 5 pm, application deadline

The New York State Primary Care Service Corps (PCSC) announced that Questions & Answers have been posted on their site that describes its loan repayment program in depth.

PCSC’s loan repayment program was developed to increase the supply of non-physician based practitioners (dentists, dental hygienists, nurse practitioners, midwives to name a few) who practice in the State’s Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs).

HPSAs are geographic regions in which there is a significant medically underserved population. The table below illustrates the need for clinicians to support New York’s underserved regions. PCSC participants are required to serve in a HPSA-designated facility for the duration of their contract.

Clinical Service Number of New Yorkers living in underserved area Number clinicians needed to provide full access to care
Primary Care 3.3 million 607
Oral Health 1.8 million 242
Mental Health 2.7 million 120

The funding opportunity is for NEW applicants only. Full- and part-time clinicians are eligible for $30,000 and $15,000 annual awards respectively. Up to 33 full-time awards will be made.

The deadline for loan applications is March 31. See the PCSC website for eligibility requirements and details.
