New Statewide Tobacco Legislation Effective May 18 and July 1

New tobacco legislation went into effect in the spring and summer of 2020. As of May 18, the sale of all tobacco products in pharmacies and any flavored e-cigarettes in New York have been banned. Additional tobacco-related legislation took effect on July 1. These new laws hold the key to protecting youth from a lifetime of exposure and addiction. Evidence shows that flavors in e-cigarettes attract youth and nicotine addicts them. The more that young people see tobacco, the more likely they are to start smoking.

Mobilize Against Tobacco Lies

Youth from New York, as well as other states across the U.S., joined forces to expose the tobacco industry’s lies and harmful marketing tactics through a weeklong event called Mobilize Against Tobacco Lies. The 2020 event took place May 11-17 with youth taking action through social media, attending virtual training sessions, participating in at-home activities, and watching the Altria shareholders meeting held via Zoom.
